What You Need to Know

Registration Check-In/Race Fees/Entry Info

REGISTRATION CHECK-IN

Online registration is required for all races. You may click on the Registration link at the top of the page to register online. REGISTRATION will close for all races on the preceding Wednesday  08/30/2023 12 midnight (HST) *. No registrations will be taken past this time.

CREWS MUST CHECK-IN TO RACE. Our registration room will be located in the lower lobby of the King Kamehameha Hotel, and will be open:

  • Thursday: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • Friday: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, don't wait until the last minute gang!

REGISTRATION CHECK-IN CHECKLIST

Please have one member of your crew (preferably the person that registered online) check-in at registration. Please have available to following documents. Coaches, please also refer to the Coach's Race Packet or your online Registration Center for more details.

  • ALL REGISTRATIONS WILL BE MADE ONLINE  
  • ALL WAIVERS - ONE PER PADDLER - SIGNED AND TURNED IN AT REGISTRATION - only one waiver per paddler required for the weekend
  • COPIES OF IDs ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL AGE GROUP PADDLERS (40s, 50s, 55s ...)
  • ALL CREW REGISTRATION SHEETS - may be printed out from your online registration center  
  • ONCE DOCS ARE SUBMITTED - PACKETS AND RACE NUMBERS RECEIVED
  • OFFICIAL RACE NUMBERS - **PLACED ON CANOE(S)  

ONLINE REGISTRATION GUIDELINES

Online registration can be done via our website and must be completed by the preceding Wednesday 12 midnight HST. No registrations will be accepted after this time.

AGE AND CREW REQUIREMENTS

  • All paddlers must be 15 years old, or older, by the date of the race they are participating in on Saturday
  • Any paddler who was 18 as of January 1st of the race year IS eligible for the Junior race on Saturday
  • All members of age group crews (40s+, 50s, 55s...) must be that age on race day. Example, if someone wishes to compete in the 40s division, they must be at least 40 on race day
  • All Mixed Crews are required to have at least 2, no more than 3 Men in their crew unless otherwise stated

REFUND POLICY

SPECIAL COVID ANNOUNCEMENT:
As we continue to prepare for the 2023 Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Festival, we recognize there is always a possibility we may not be able to host the events due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic. This is definitely not our desire, but it needs to be considered. Our primary objective in all of our activities, is the health and safety of our participants, our members, and our community. If we are forced to cancel due to state of Hawaii, county of Hawaii,  or CDC Covid requirements, we will let you know as soon as we know. Our cancellation policy for this situation will be a full refund of all entry fees, minus any/all applicable credit card fees, received by Kai 'Opua.

We recommend you understand the cancellation policy of all your travel bookings as we aren't responsible for them. We hope to see all of you in Kona in September, and we will keep you informed as we have more information.

STANDARD REFUND POLICY:

  • Entry withdrawals received before August 12, 2023 will receive a full refund, minus a 3% credit card fee
  • Entry withdrawals received before August 19, 2023 will receive a 50% refund, minus a 3% credit card fee
  • No refunds will be given for any withdrawals after August 26, 2023
  • No refunds will be given if the event is cancelled due to a natural disaster, extreme weather or for any other safety reason.

WAIVERS

To download our waiver forms, please use the WAIVERS link at the top of the page.

  • A WAIVER form for each paddler must be signed by all paddlers of that crew and turned in to Kai 'Opua Registration in order to receive the crew's race packet with canoe I.D. Decal Numbers. Registration closes at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
  • NO PADDLERS MAY PARTICIPATE WITHOUT HAVING SIGNED WAIVER FORMS!
  • If a paddler is participating in a Saturday race, they do not have to complete waivers for any OC6 race on Sunday and Monday. Only one waiver per paddler turned in at registration.
  • I.D. Required if entering any age division. You may make legible photo copies of IDs.
  • Iron Crews: Six (6) paddlers. No relief paddlers, no escort boats. Junior crews must all be 15 through 18 years of age.
  • Non-Iron: Nine (9) paddlers, two (2) helpers and one (1) coach. If the coach is also a paddler, his/her name must appear on the list as a paddler. Junior crews must all be 15 through 18 years of age.
  • PLEASE NOTE: 9-Person Category: The Captain of your escort boat must also sign an Escort Boat Waiver.

PADDLERS' REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO RACES

  • All paddlers must have signed waivers and be registered in order to participate. Paddlers in age-group divisions must bring identification showing proof of age at time of registration.
  • Double-Hull Races: Clubs may join together or have unregistered paddlers participating as members of their crew, provided all have signed Waivers.

ADDITIONAL FEES

Note - we are now requiring each non-Hawaiian paddler to pay a $10 insurance fee. This fee is assessed on the Saturday crew entries. If a paddler is registered for the Saturday race, the insurance fee paid will cover them for all remaining long distance events in Hawaii through the end of the year. Our list will be shared with the Pailolo, Na Wahine O Ke Kai and Molokai Hoe registration committees so that they do not need to pay the fee more than once.
